Start doing something right now!

Inspiration does not come to those who wait for it, it finds those who act.

This principle is so damn important! Literally 10 minutes ago I sat in front of my computer, being mindless, doing nothing. Hell, I was not even browsing reddit for stupid pictures, I was literally doing nothing at all.

It was not that I had nothing to do. New, awesome video games, a new vinyl, new interesting books, taking a jog, watching a good movie, writing an article, I was even too lazy to eat. I had no motivation to do anything and was sitting there, thinking “Just wait, in some minutes you will be inspired and motivated again. You will pick something and do it.”

But guess what? That did not happen! Instead I remembered this important lesson that I had to repeat often times before believing it: In order to get motivated for action you have to act first. Sounds stupid, but works! If you feel unmotivated and without power you just stand up and do something! Start cleaning your apartment, do your laundry, do push-ups, take a shower, anything really! Just don’t sit there and do nothing at all.

Why waste your time when you could do awesome stuff? This post is not about not relaxing, don’t get me wrong. But there is a big difference between relaxing and being lazy and getting nothing done. Relaxing is something active that kicks ass and is fun. Being lazy and getting nothing done is just a stupid waste of time.

So maybe I had the luck to catch you in a moment of unproductivity and this was your wake-up call. By the way: I recently realised that many of you read my posts in the morning while still in bed or sleepy. For those of you: Don’t even think about going back into your warm and cozy dreamland, get up and get going pal!

Greetings from motivation-land!

Embrace life

Let life happen to you. Believe me, life is in the right, always.

Rainer Maria Rilke

Sometimes people say stuff like “This is unfair” or “I don’t deserve this, life sucks”. I don’t like those sayings. Life is not unfair. Life is life. You can make anything out of it so stop blaming “life” on your misery and start taking responsibility.

Giving something universal like life the fault for anything is plain stupid and a bad excuse for being lazy. Instead embrace life, enjoy things even if they don’t go according to plan and laugh about confusion.

Stay fit!

Think of your body like a machine. It has to be cleaned, oiled and serviced regularly if you want it to perfom well.

You put effort in your car, your flat, your TV screen but you refuse to eat healthy and put in some work regarding fitness? Shame on you!

This is not about everybody becoming a body-builder, but a general level of fitness is a must for every adult. It does not take that much discipline, you just have to get started and continue making your baby steps on a daily basis. Start today and simply DO NOT STOP! Don’t stop at a certain weight, at a certain day, at a certain moment, never stop keeping your body fit and feeling well.

Feeling insecure?

The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.

Steve Furtick

This is a very important thing to understand: Everyone struggles, everyone has their own problems. Some people have more problems, some have less, but everyone fights their own battles.

Don’t make the mistake to think that people just live awesome lifes without problems while you have so much things to work on. Especially in our social media generation we present ourselves on Facebook, Twitter and Co. with the best of our lifes.

We post pictures of holidays, parties, quote fun things, plan events. We don’t write what concerns us, what troubles us. And this is perfectly okay. But it is important for everyone to understand that these images that people build up are not a realistic approach at showing us who they really are.

Do not compare your life to other facebook profiles, that would be as stupid as to compare your life to the one of an imaginary movie character. Take TV Series for example. The characters socialize, party, talk, go out, have fun etc., but you almost never see them working or doing household chores. How boring would a series be if all characters had to work their 9-to-5?

In conclusion I emphasize again: Do not think too bad of yourself, chances are you have a kick-ass life with lots of fun. Everyone has work to do, everyone copes with something. The point that they don’t run around with banners proclaiming that they don’t like their job/sports/partner at the moment does not mean they are satisfied. We are all humans. We have problems, fears, insecurities and we don’t always know what to do and how to do it. Don’t overthink, enjoy your life 🙂

Sleep later

Success and rest don’t sleep together.

Russian Proverb

Yup, human beings need sleep, I know that. But I also know that sleep steals a lot of time. Time you could spend studying, training, working or even enjoying yourself, going out, reading a book etc.

Success needs effort and time so you should not be a person who likes to sleep 10 hours per day if you want to see results (in less than 40 years).

Make it a habit to sleep less then you are used to and work on still being fit anyway. It works, trust me.

Try, fall down, get back up, try again!

Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.

George S. Patton

No matter what profession you work in or what hobbies you have, you will fail in life.

As long as you try out new things and challenge yourself you will have setbacks so what you have to do is get up again every single time. In the end you will see how easy it is to get back up on your feet and how normal and actually not problematic it is to get knocked down in the first place.

Speak less of your plans and get more of them done

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

Walt Disney

While planning is a great thing to do you should not brag about your plans all day long. Don’t waste your time with daydreaming and talking about your ideas and plans while you could be busy achieving what you want.

Get up, get active! Start working on your dreams right now and don’t delay anymore.

Practise!

Being educated by books will only get you so far in a fight. If you don’t practice what you have learned, even a child can bring you to your knees. Just ask the man who was kicked in the groin by his tottler.

A while ago I wrote something on the topic of theoretical learning vs. practical learning and how important it is to actually practise.

It is important to remember that reading is great but does not bring you half as far as really learning something. You have to apply your knowledge to make it stick to your brain and to make good use of it in the first place. So don’t make the mistake of reading ten books about fitness before you go out for a run!
