There’s always something wrong

The next suitable person you’re in light conversation with, you stop suddenly in the middle of the conversation and look at the person closely and say “What’s wrong?”

You say it in a concerned way. He’ll say, “What do you mean?” You say, “Something’s wrong. I can tell. What is it?” And he’ll look stunned and say, “How did you know?”

He doesn’t realize something’s always wrong, with everybody. Often more than one ting. He doesn’t know everybody’s always going around all the time with something wrong and believing they’re exerting great willpower and control to keep other people, for whom they think nothing’s ever wrong, from seeing it.

David Foster Wallace

Slow and steady

There is no royal road to anything. One thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast, withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures.

Thinking over and over again

A single footstep will not make a path on the earth. So a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind.

To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again.

To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.

We’ll change the world

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

Love each other

We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorizedd and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.
