Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted.
The truth is that the world is full of dragons, and none of us are as powerful or cool as we’d like to be. And that sucks. But when you’re confronted with that fact, you can either crawl into a hole and quit, or you can get out there, take off your shoes, and Bilbo it up.
There is no final victory, as there is no final defeat. There is just the same battle. To be fought, over and over again. So toughen up, bloody toughen up.
Start by doing one pushup. Start by drinking one cup of water. Start by paying toward one debt. Start by reading one page. Start by making one sale. Start by deleting one old contact. Start by walking one lap. Start by attending one event. Start by writing one paragraph. Start today. Repeat tomorrow.
Don’t quit. You’re already in pain. You’re already hurt. Get a reward from it.
Anyone can hide. Facing up to things, working through them, that’s what makes you strong.
One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful.
