Don’t be afraid of living

You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid…. You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so you refuse to take the stand.

Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.

What makes you angry?

You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry.

Figuring out the right things to want [picture]

A friend recently shared this gem with me, absolutely awesome:

It is key to figure out just what you want out of life. You have this one life and I think many of you will find themselves in an sea of endless opportunities. Think about what you really want, about your priorities. Then get started!

You are one of the lucky ones, embrace it!

We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones.

Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born.

The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara.

Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton.

We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively outnumbers the set of actual people.

In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?

All aboard the happy train!

Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of travelling.

Margaret B. Runbeck

Happiness is not something you work for and suddenly achieve it. Happiness is a state of mind, it is something only your can gift yourself. Happiness can’t be bought, it has to be accepted and created by yourself. It is your default state, you just have to realize it.

Work for results

The results you achieve will be in direct proportion to the effort you apply.

Denis Waitley

This one seems so simple, but is very important and often forgotten. You have to work hard and smart in order to achieve anything.

Live now

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.

Just go right along

Out there things can happen, and frequently do, to people as brainy and footsy as you. And when things start to happen, don’t worry. Don’t stew. Just go right along. You’ll start happening too.

Oh,  the places you’ll go!

Dr. Seuss

Life unfolds in a lot of different ways. Just live your life and enjoy every bit of it.

Go with the flow, let things happen and let yourself happen. Let the universe unfold itself.

In short: Enjoy the ride, it’s the only one you have and it’s a damn fun one (If you let it)!
