Love, Meaning, Motivation

The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock.

The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation.

For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. You’d be suprised how far that gets you.

Neil deGrasse Tyson

You are not a child! You may still be able to have fun like a child (which is awesome), but you are responsible for yourself meaning you are responsible for your own well-being. Therefore you may blame it on other people or life in general that you just don’t have motivation, love, a purpose in life, but in the end it is you who suffers and takes the consequences.

Even if you were right and someone else was trying to make you feel bad what would that make you? Nothing more than someone who gets bullied around and instead of fighting back just points his finger towards others.

Don’t be that unreactive tool, rather take action, start living! You create your own life and you have to stop thinking that ‘one day’ you will just wake up with discipline, one day you will just get to know the love of your life without effort or one day you simply get told why you are on earth.

It is your task (and a fun one) to form your habits, your mind, your soul and your body. Yup, sounds cheesy, but come to think of it: Who else but you has power over your life? Noone you say? Damn right, that’s what I wanted you to say! So go out there and be the person who you wanted to be, say the things that you wanted to say and do the stuff that you wanted to do!

Level up! [picture]

Today I steal a nice one from the guys over at brotip.com, you should give them a visit!

I mean life getting harder can always mean you just fucked up, but often the reason is that you succeeded at something. Because success normaly brings you to a new stage, a higher stage,  where new challenges await you. New challenges are hard and therefore life gets tough.

But like Bruce Lee said, there are no limits, just plateaus and it lies in your willpower to go from plateau to plateau, higher and higher.

You can live on the ground with the principle of little input and little output meaning you keep your ambitions low and have an ‘easy’ and small life or you can go live a life where you make use of all the potential, of all the possibilities.

It’s your choice!

Fail, learn, fail better

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
Colin Powell

You are a human being, make use of that fact! You are able to learn from your mistakes and avoid them the next time. This ability is very important and too many people just don’t appreciate it enough. While preparation and hard work are concepts that take a little bit time to get used to, they still are understandable for most people. Failure on the other hand is like a stop-sign for most people, they accept it as final, which is in most cases bullshit!

Failing is life teaching you a lesson. You can take the lesson and start over again or you can go home and accept defeat. In both cases life will go on but only in one case you grow.

Decide to grow. Decide to learn! Decide to fail!

Just work!

The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.

Oprah Winfrey

It may feel good to wait for the big revealing of the secret. It may feel good to think that there is this magic trick that just brings you where you want to be without much effort.

Truth is it all comes down to hard work. Ask any successful person, they will tell you that hard work and hard work alone brought them where they are.

You can go there too! Stop waiting and awaiting, start working!

Make use of your skills

If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs.

Tony Gaskins

You do have some kind of dream do you? Everybody has something they always wanted to do, something they always wanted to say, SOMETHING!

So go get it! Don’t waste your time and your talent for some other guy who just uses you to achieve his goals.
Don’t get me wrong: Helping people is awesome and it is a good thing to do. But you have to take care of your own ambitions, never lose focus!

Don’t ask people what they want

I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.

Wayne Gretzky

This goes perfectly together with Henry Ford saying that if he had asked the people what they wanted, they would have asked for faster horses.

Don’t ask people what they want because in most cases they simply don’t know it themselves. Of course this is not about being an asshole and doing whatever you want, but if you want to create something you should not always listen to people giving you their demands but you should feel free to make something that feels just good.

Without this attitude there would be no cars, no light-bulbs, no iPod, no iPad, nothing brilliant or excellent.

Keep it going

Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.

Babe Ruth

Don’t rest as soon as you have acomplished something awesome. Always be eager to acomplish, always be eager to be awesome!

While it is nice to have some great achievements to look back on it is not sufficient. You have to crave for more!

About sleep

Brace yourselves, this is a big one!

I’ve always figured out that there 24 hours a day. You sleep six hours and have 18 hours left. Now, I know there are some of you out there that say well, wait a minute, I sleep eight hours or nine hours. Well, then, just sleep faster, I would recommend.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

I love this quote by Arnold which comes from a speech he gave at the University of Southern California on May 15th 2009. Not only is Arnold Schwarzenegger a perfect example of a successful person that does not sleep much, the speech also shows that even under great pressure (both for the mind and the body) you can do a shitload of amazing stuff. In fact: Without asking much from your body you won’t be able to sleep less. Here goes why:

Get out of your comfort zone!

If it makes you nervous, your are doing it right

Donald Glover

So much truth in so few words! If you had never gone out of your comfort zone – which always makes you nervous – where would you be right now? You would not have made it through school, not gotten any job or friends, you would have achieved nothing.

In order to achieve anything, in order to grow as a human being you have to evolve constantly and that means getting out of your comfort zone. That makes you nervous and therefore being nervous about something means it is good to deal with it. So don’t chicken out and just get it over with!

About strength, confidence and misjudgement

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

The problem with this is that most people don’t talk about their struggles but rather about their success. Why would they talk about the struggles, it is not interesting after all and people are often measured by their success not by their problems.

So what you get from them is: ‘I did this, I did that, I achieved X, I rocked Y’ but you don’t get to hear ‘I failed this, I failed that, I slept in and did not do shit today’. Therefore you might easily think that other people just have their shit together and you don’t so you start questioning yourself.

This is especially a problem in times of social media like facebook. You see always the good side of people because they present themselves on their profiles. It is not an accurate picture of the people but rather a mere show-off portfolio where you see Photos from hoildays, from parties, you see cool stuff they did. But that is not what makes the persons who they are, it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Failure and the decision when to keep going is what makes the people who they are. But those things are so personal that most people don’t share them, especially over the internet.

So you should not judge the book by it’s cover meaning you should not be so quick to decide who looks strong (not in terms of physical strength) and who does not. And most important: Getting your sense of strength right will actually help you develop a more confident image of yourself. Once you’ve realised that it is not all about winning but more about the path towards the win you start seeing things more focused and are able to achieve more.

Don’t judge people by the result but by the work they’ve put in. I mean who is more successful in work, the small worker who had to put in a lot of effort in order to get his job and is proud about his work or the rich businessman who actually does a shitty job but inherited the company from his dad?

Always remember: Hard work, failure, getting up again and starting over, that is what makes people awesome! Winning is just the mere result of being a cool person.  You can think about it like you think about a paperchase. Just because you arrived at the target destination first does not mean that you had the most fun at all!

So relax, do what you love and most importantly: Don’t fear to fail but instead fail often, fail greatly and learn from it. If it makes you feel better: Read about people like Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison or other successful people to realise how many thousand times they failed before they started winning.
