Take the detours

Establishing goals is all right if you don’t let them deprive you of interesting detours.

Doug Larson

Actually establishing goals is more than all right, it is awesome!

Having both, long term and short term goals keeps you motivated and focused. But it is true that you should not forget the beauty of spontaneous moments because of your strict focus.

Be prepared to take detours, to discover, to enjoy.

Get your act together!

Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There’s plenty of movement, but you never know if it’s going to be forward, backwards, or sideways.

H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Your focus needs more focus!

Choose wisely

It is important not only that you do, but what you do.

Never mistake activity for achievement.

Priorities

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

Steer your mind in the right direction

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.

Brian Tracy

This one is important and I wrote about it several times in different forms.

Your mind is extremely powerful and you have to guide it well!

For example: You are facing a test, let’s say you make the driver’s license. What you want to focus on are thoughts like “I’m going to be a driver soon” “I will pass the test” “I will drive on the streets in a car whenever I want  to”. Think positively and think about what you will achieve, not about what you might fail or lose.

This positive attitude will motivate you much more than plain fear of failure and the good thing is: You will like to think about it. Thinking about failure can lead to escapism which is not what you want. Do not think “This is too much to tackle, I’ll stay in bed”, rather think “Wow, I will do this, let’s start right now!”

It works wonders!

Focus!

Person who chases two rabbits catches neither.

Confucius

It is important to focus and to set priorities. You do not have the time, energy or skill to do several important tasks at once and if you try, you will realize that your work will be half-assed and not merely as good as if you had done them separately.

Know when to say no, know when to set priorities straight and know what to do with your time and energy. You are very powerful but you have to focus your abilities.

Compare yourself to a water hose. You can have a small opening to create a firm and tiny water jet or you can have a big fuzzy opening to create a undefined and unfocused water jet. In the latter case you will need unbelievable amounts of pressure to get a good and firm water jet while in the first case you have a way better output in terms of vigour with a lot less input power.

Focus will help you a lot to go easy an your resources.

Impossible you say?

At first something seems impossible; then it becomes improbable; but with enough conviction and support it becomes inevitable.
Christopher Reeve

If you want something go for it. Noone can tell you that it is impossible as long as you refuse to believe them.

Keep focused and aim for the stars!

By the way: You may have noticed that today’s post came one hour earlier than normally. This was on purpose and was actually a suggestion by one of my fellow readers Maxi. The reason is simple: Here in Germany the posts were published at 7:30 AM, basically a bit too late for the first morning coffee.

From now on posts will be published one hour sooner, which means 6:30 AM for our German readers 🙂

Focus on your goals

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.

Henry Ford

This is why you have to know your goals well.

Think about them a lot, have a clear picture of them in your mind.

Blurry goals make you easily distracted while clear and strong goals keep you focused and motivated.

What is impossible?

When a goal matters enough to a person, that person will find a way to accomplish what at first seemed impossible.

Focus! More Pokémon-Wisdom incoming!

It’s more important to master the cards you’re holding than to complain about the ones that your oponents were dealt

Grimsley

Focus on you own abilities and talents. Don’t brag about others or spend time trying to figure out why they are so awesome.

They did not start off better than you. They simply worked hard while you sat there and analyzed why they were better off.

Stop thinking about them now and work on yourself!
