Attitude!

Your attitude is more important that your aptitude.

Perspective

We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses

Abraham Lincoln

As always, it is a question of perspective.

You make your own luck!

Steer your mind in the right direction

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.

Brian Tracy

This one is important and I wrote about it several times in different forms.

Your mind is extremely powerful and you have to guide it well!

For example: You are facing a test, let’s say you make the driver’s license. What you want to focus on are thoughts like “I’m going to be a driver soon” “I will pass the test” “I will drive on the streets in a car whenever I want  to”. Think positively and think about what you will achieve, not about what you might fail or lose.

This positive attitude will motivate you much more than plain fear of failure and the good thing is: You will like to think about it. Thinking about failure can lead to escapism which is not what you want. Do not think “This is too much to tackle, I’ll stay in bed”, rather think “Wow, I will do this, let’s start right now!”

It works wonders!

Maintain a helpful attitude

Don’t find fault, find a remedy.

Henry Ford

Who cares who is to blame? Problems want to be solved, solutions want to be created.

Seize the day and fix stuff, make this world a better place. We do not need more critics or nay-sayer.

We need people with positivity and kindness who do not care about blame or responsibility but roll up their sleeves and get to work with focus and creativity!

Like the proverb says: As long as you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

So for 2013 maybe you could try to start small and reduce your blaming. You will be suprised to find out how often it just does not matter who’s fault it was. Just drop it and nobody will care. Instead think solution-oriented, aim for a fix for the situation.

Soon you will realise that this attitude makes dealing with problems or failure a lot more easy for you and that people will recognize this. Eventually you can make a positive difference.

Apart from this, I want to wish every single one of you all of the best for the next year, may all of your plans and goals be achieved. And always remember: Chances favour the one in motion, so do not wait for fate to strike and help you out. Instead go out there and take what you want! It will work, trust in me, who trusts in you.

In it for the money?

You reach a point where you don’t work for money.

Walt Disney

Money can only bring you so far before it won’t be fun anymore.

There will be a point where you start working for your own pleasure, where you do not see work as a duty or as a pain.

Work will be your hobby and you will love it.

But bear in mind: In order for this to happen you need to have a positive mindset about work. Allow your work to affect you in a positive way. As long as you go to your office or place of work with thoughts along the lines of ‘Meh, I hate this job’, you won’t achieve any of those effects.

Do not underestimate yourself

Promise me you’ll always remember that you’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

Never ever underestimate yourself. You set your own limits and therefore underestimating your powers is like cutting them.

As long as you live with a limited set of beliefs you will never reach your full potential. Dream big, believe in your greatness!

Be like a tree

Okay I may have exaggerated, do not take this too literally, but there are many aspects of a tree that we could use very well:

Stand out tall and proud

Go out on a limb

Remember your roots

Drink plenty of water

Be content with your natural beauty

Enjoy the view

Epic:

The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.

Words for teenagers

Well not only for teenagers I guess:

Northland College principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth.

Always we hear the cry from teenagers, ‘what can we do, where can we go?’

My answer is this: Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons and after you’ve finished, read a book. Your town does not owe you recreational facitlities and your parents do not owe you fun.

The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war in sickness and lonely again. In other words grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It’s too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you!

Yes we can

Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can.

Richard Bach

Mere ability is not enough, you have to believe in your success. Trust yourself and dig into work with the feeling of ‘I can do that’ rather than ‘This seems hard’.
