We all know the situtation: You listen to someone, just go “blabla, yes yes, I’m listening” and in your head you are preparing what you want to say and how you want to say it.

That is bad!

Don’t do it!

Instead try to really listen, try to really understand! That is why many people say that noone ever listens. Because listening is an active thing to do, not something passive.
